'Mashrafe Bin Mortaza should be made BCB president.' Several events are visible when you enter the social media. Not only Mashrafe, but many people have also raised the demand to make Shakib Al Hasan as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, who became a member of Parliament for the first time in the election. However, these two cannot be made president now.
Why Mashrafe and Shakib can not be BCB president now? The reason is the complex constitution of BCB. To become the BCB president, one has to accept some conditions.
Firstly, being a full member of the ICC, the BCB has to follow the guidelines of the ICC. According to that guideline, the chairman of the board must be the elected chairman. There is no opportunity to nominate him without election.
The candidate for the post of Board President shall be a Director of the Board. No one other than the director has the right to vote as the board president.
To be elected to the position of director of the board, one must be a councilor of the board, and to be a councilor one must be in the role of organizer in regional or club-level cricket. The number of councilors in the last election was 171.
None of Shakib and Mashrafe is a councilor of BCB. Not even a board director. So these two have no chance to become BCB president now.
However, the government has the power to make anyone the head of any sports organization at any time. But there are obstacles there too. According to ICC's clear rules, there can be no politics or government interference in cricket. So whoever is the head of BCB, has to follow all the rules and regulations.
