Siechem Madurai Panthers’ leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin made the headlines after he timed his dive to perfection only to take the catch in his safe pair of hands against Dindigul Dragons at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul during the ongoing edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Murugan Ashwin pulls off an outrageous catch to dismiss S Arun in TNPL.
Murugan Ashwin put in a full-blooded dive in an attempt to take the catch. Much to everyone's surprise, he had complete control over the ball after taking the catch. The commentators and the fans ran short of words to praise Murugan Ashwin.
Even the Siechem Madurai Panthers' players went up to him to praise him for his effort. Well, this is seen as one of the best catches in the history of the TNPL without a shadow of any doubt. Ashwin pulled off an outrageous backward running catch in both hands to dismiss S Arun off Gurjapneet Singh's bowling.
Unfortunately, his mind-boggling effort came in a losing cause as Dindigul Dragons went on to ace the run-chase by seven wickets. Batting first, Siechem Madurai Panthers were bowled out for 123 runs. J Kousik top-scored with 45 runs.
On the other hand, Dindigul Dragons' bowlers namely Saravana Kumar and Suboth Bhati took three wickets apiece. In reply, Dindigul Dragons were in a spot of bother after being reduced to 32/3 in 3.4 overs. However, the likes of Baba Indrajith and Adithya Ganesh added a match-winning 92-run stand for the fourth wicket.
Baba Indrajith top-scored with 78 off 48 balls with the help of seven fours and four sixes. On the other hand, Gurjapneet Singh took three wickets for Siechem Madurai Panthers.
Suboth Bhati was named the Player of the Match for registering 3/19 in four overs. He also bowled a maiden over which was really impressive. "I am happy that we have won back-to-back matches. This wicket, length balls were working. The previous wicket yorkers were working. Ashwin backed me, told me to go for wickets. You can't bowl freely if you don't have captain's working," Suboth Bhati said at the post-match presentation.
Dindigul Dragons' captain Ravichandran Ashwin said, "We saw a good display of fast bowling there. You have to give chances and hope they grab it with both hands. If you are consistent in these conditions, you will get wickets. I am also learning in this role. Nobody is ever bigger than this game."
