After an 8-month break from ODI cricket, the Bangladesh team is eager to return to their preferred format in an upcoming series against Afghanistan. Bangladesh has recently had a mixed run—strong performances in the Pakistan Test series were followed by struggles against India and South Africa. However, star batter Towhid Hridoy is looking forward rather than back, believing that moving on from past setbacks is key to securing success in the present.
In a recent media interaction before departing for Dubai, Hridoy shared his focus on staying in the moment. “Every player here is a professional; there’s no point dwelling on the past. Moving forward game by game is the way to go. We don’t have time to dwell on what has already happened. I believe it’s more important to focus on how we start the upcoming series,” Hridoy said.
Dubai’s pitch and conditions remain an unknown for Hridoy, though he remains optimistic. “I haven’t played there, so it might be my first game in Dubai. But I know it won’t be too difficult since almost every player here has played in similar conditions. I expect it will be challenging but fair for both teams,” he explained.
When asked about his goals for the series and Afghanistan’s bowling strength, Hridoy remained open-minded. “To be honest, I don’t set specific targets beforehand. I try to approach things match by match, staying in the present. Afghanistan’s spin attack is strong, but all teams at this level have strengths. International cricket is meant to test us, so we’ll plan accordingly and give it our best,” he said.
The first match of the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and Afghanistan is set for November 6 in Sharjah.
