New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has declared himself eligible for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024-25 season. The announcement was made on Tuesday through the PSL’s official social media channels.
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Tuesday announced that experienced New Zealand pacer Tim Southee has registered for the much-awaited player draft for the 10th edition of the league.
The announcement was made on the league's social media channels with a banner and the caption "New Zealand pacer Tim Southee enters HBL PSL Draft."
Tim Southee is widely regarded as one of the best pacers in the history of T20 cricket. He has represented New Zealand in 126 T20I matches, taking 164 wickets in the process, making him the highest wicket-taker in the history of T20I cricket.
The order of selection for the draft has been decided. Two-time champions Lahore Qalandars secured the first pick in the opening round of the platinum category. They are followed by their arch-rivals Karachi Kings, who hold the second pick. 2019 champions Quetta Gladiators will have the third pick, while Peshawar Zalmi will have the fourth pick. Last season's runners-up Multan Sultans and reigning champions Islamabad United will have the fifth and sixth picks respectively.
Southee brings a wealth of experience in franchise leagues and has played in several top competitions including the Indian Premier League (IPL), The Hundred Men's Competition, Vitality Blast and the Champions League T20. In his 10 IPL seasons, he has represented several teams including Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Notably, Southee is the fourth New Zealander and 22nd overseas player overall to register for the PSL 10 draft, which will be held in Balochistan for the first time as Gwadar will host the landmark event on January 11, 2025.
