The third and final ODI between Sri Lanka and New Zealand has been abandoned due to persistent rain. But Sri Lanka have snatched away the series with 2-0 nil.

In search for a consolation victory, New Zealand opted to bat first. The Kiwis lost Tim Robinson earlier on to Mohammad Shiraz. But Will Young Will and Henry Nicholls both dugged in and stitched a superb partnership to steer the ship for the Blackcaps. They've had an unbeaten partnership of 88* runs and Young brought up a fifty, remained unbeaten on 56* before the arrival of rain.

New Zealand were on 112-1 after 21 overs and then the rain settled in and after waiting for hours umpires called off the match.

Sri Lanka, however, comfortably beat the Kiwis in ODI's and drawn in the T20I's by 1-1. Kusal Mendis was adjusted as the player of the ODI series following his superb outings. He has scored 217 runs in his 2 innings at an eye-watering average of 217.

This is Sri Lanka's fifth ODI series win in 2024. Sri Lanka now will tour to South Africa for a vital WTC clash. While New Zealand will move back to home for the three-match Test series against England.
