Sunil Gavaskar reserved the highest respect for Mohammed Shami for the way he approached the game against the England cricket team in the 29th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

However, they were unable to withstand the Indian bowlers' defiance, who kept hitting the balls at the right line and length.
Indian bowlers' persistence paid off as they not only kept the England batsmen silent but also took wickets when it mattered the most and restricted the Three Lions to 129. Mohammed Shami was the wrecker-in-chief as he got rid of Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.
Shami registered 4/22 in 7 overs and also bowled two maiden overs. Sunil Gavaskar spoke highly of Mohammed Shami's performance. "There is a lot of hard work there. When he goes back home, he has got several pitches made apparently, and he just bowls and bowls over there. That is what is important. He is looking at his personal cricketing fitness," Gavaskar told India Today.
"What is his specialty? It's fast bowling. By bowling a number of overs in the nets where he stays. I don't know whether he is a gym person. You can be doing gym all day. But at the end of the day... Mohammed Shami is doing exactly what Kapil Dev used to do, just bowl and bowl in the nets," he added.
Mohammed Shami has been the main bowler for India in ODI World Cups wherein he took 40 wickets in 13 games and maintained a phenomenal bowling average of 14.07. He will be looking forward to continuing his good form in the ongoing tournament.
Team India beat England by 100 runs and won six games in a row. The Men in Blue will take on Sri Lanka on November 2, Thursday at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
