Bangladesh's dynamic cricketer Soumya Sarkar suffered a significant injury during the second T20I against West Indies. While fielding in the seventh over of the match, Soumya sustained a serious blow to his right hand while attempting a catch. The injury has ruled him out for the rest of the series and the initial phase of the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The unfortunate moment occurred in the seventh over of West Indies’ innings when captain Rovman Powell edged a delivery from Tanzim Hasan Sakib towards the slip region. Soumya attempted to complete the catch but ended up injuring his right index finger. Writhing in pain, he left the field immediately and did not return for the remainder of the match.

Following the incident, medical personnel were seen on the ground, and Soumya was taken to the hospital for an X-ray. The scans revealed a fracture, and his injury required five stitches on his finger.

The injury comes at a time when Soumya was enjoying a purple patch. He had been in exceptional form across formats, building on his success from the Global Super League, where he won the Player of the Tournament award. Soumya carried this momentum into international cricket, scoring a crucial 43 runs in the first T20I after registering a fifty in the preceding ODI series.

Losing Soumya is a significant blow for Bangladesh, as his form had been a key factor in their recent successes. His absence will undoubtedly impact the Tigers in the remainder of the series and the opening stages of the BPL.

Although Soumya dropped Powell’s catch, Hasan Mahmud dismissed the West Indies skipper in the following over. Bangladesh’s bowlers delivered a commanding performance, defending a modest total of 129 and securing a 27-run victory. With this win, Bangladesh took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, showcasing their dominance in the Caribbean.
