As Bangladesh get ready to face Zimbabwe for a two-match Test series beginning April 20 in Sylhet, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto wants everyone to change the way they think.  After a string of bad home results, the captain thinks it's time for a change in both how they play and how they act.

Shanto made it clear to the media before the first Test that Bangladesh needed to play with the goal of winning, no matter the circumstances or the team they were playing.  Since the Tigers have lost their last four home Tests, they are eager to start off on a better note in the longer version.

“We always play to win,” said Shanto. “No one wants to play safe cricket. We’re going to try some new things starting tomorrow. The players are preparing well, and I hope the management and board continue supporting us.”

Shanto acknowledged that Bangladesh's approach to Test cricket has remained largely stagnant for over two decades, with minimal progress seen in results or strategy. That, he says, is about to change. “Test cricket for us has remained the same for the last 20–22 years. We need to evolve,” the captain added. “It starts with our mindset — playing to win, no matter the situation. If our bowlers need 20 wickets, our batters must support with the necessary runs.”

When asked about the specific areas where change is needed, Shanto emphasized the importance of mental toughness and visible intensity on the field. “It’s about mentality, body language — staying aggressive even under pressure, like we did in the West Indies. That’s the mindset we want to maintain.”
