Bangladesh cricketer Sabbir Rahman has retained a strong fan following, with many supporters eagerly hoping for his return to the national team. Driven by their unwavering support, Sabbir is determined to prove himself in the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), aiming to secure his spot in the national lineup.

Though left out in the last BPL season, Sabbir was picked up this year by Dhaka Capitals, a team that has quickly become one of the favorites in the tournament. Speaking on his aspirations, he noted his ambition to reward the trust of both his team and his fans by delivering a standout performance.

Sabbir shared with BDCricTime, “I haven’t fully planned for BPL yet since there are still two months. I’m practicing with the goal to perform well and hopefully make my way back into the national team. Before BPL, we have the NCL’s T20 tournament, which will be a good preparation. I’ll aim to perform my best in BPL.”

The cricketer admitted feeling a bit nervous during the BPL players’ draft this year, especially since he was categorized in the "E" grade and faced uncertainty about his selection. “I was a bit nervous because I didn’t get a team last year. Playing in the Zim Afro T10 League boosted my confidence, and I felt a team might take a chance on me. Thankfully, Dhaka Capitals put their faith in me.”

Commenting on the BPL grading system, which has sparked concerns among players like Imrul Kayes, Sabbir expressed curiosity about the grading criteria. Although he had no personal grievances, he said, “I have no issues with the grading. But, like Imrul Bhai pointed out, there’s a need for clarity. Some players who haven’t performed well recently are in higher grades, while others aren’t. Last year, I didn’t get a team, so this year, getting selected itself was the priority. But I also wonder what the basis is for these categories.”

Reflecting on his recent stint for Bulawayo Brave Jaguars in Zimbabwe’s Zim Afro T10 League, Sabbir shared that the fast-paced format significantly boosted his confidence. “The Zim Afro T10 was great. It was my first time in a 10-over format, and initially, I was nervous because I hadn’t experienced such a short game. Eventually, I got comfortable and even performed well in one game. I sacrificed for the team in a couple of games, and they were really happy with that. I’d love to play again if they want me, and I’m open to more opportunities in other leagues too.”
