West Indies have beaten South Africa by 30 runs to win the series, with one game to spare on Monday (August 26). Crucial cameos from Shai Hope, Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford helped West Indies post 179 on the board. In reply, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Joseph bowled exceptional spells, where the duo claimed three wickets each to win the match for West Indies.
Shamar and Shepherd shared three wickets apiece to hand West Indies a brilliant 30-run victory over South Africa.
Being inserted to bat first, West Indies had a decent start with Alick Athanaze and Shai Hope stitched 41-run opening stand. They lost their way for a bit as some quick wickets thumped West Indies backfoot. But Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford have lifted West Indies to the safe shores. The duo saw a flurry of boundaries, smashing them out of the parks for fun and reaching to 179.
Powell made 22-ball 35, while Rutherford scored 29 off 18 deliveries. Lizaad Williams was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed three wickets to his name. Patrick Kruger also had two wickets.
In reply, South Africa had a rollicking start with Reeza Hendricks hitting a flurry of boundaries. The proteas raced their way to 67/1 after first five overs. Romario Shepherd removed the danger man in the last over of powerplay and South Africa lost all the momentum post that.
Even though Tristan Stubbs and Rassie Van Der Dussen strung a 43-run stand, the hosts kept a tight lid on the scoring rate. South Africa were in the game until 129/3 but they lost complete control of it after a horrible collapse as they devastated into 149/10.
West Indies have taken the series now with one the game to spare. The final T20I will take place on Wednesday (August 28) at Tarouba, Trinidad.
