Sanjay Manjrekar feels that Rohit Sharma is "going through a phase" and, at this stage of his career, needs to "push himself every morning."
Rohit struggled once again in IPL 2025, managing just 8 runs against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Saturday. This followed a four-ball duck against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earlier in the tournament.
"Rohit Sharma is clearly going through a phase," Manjrekar said on JioStar. "He's not the Rohit Sharma of, say, three to four years ago. He's at a stage in his career where he has to push himself every morning - train hard and be at his best - because things are slipping away for him. He's still relying on his natural talent and instincts."
Rohit Sharma has also struggled in international cricket, enduring a rough patch in Test matches, beginning with Bangladesh's tour of India in September 2024. During this period, his highest score was just 52 (his only half-century), and he averaged a mere 10.93. However, he contributed to India's success in the Champions Trophy, providing the team with quick starts, even though he didn't manage to play a major innings. His 76 in the final against New Zealand was the only time he crossed fifty.
