Rahane opens up on his emotional comeback ahead of WTC final

Ajinkya Rahane used to be a regular feature of India's Test set-up but was taken out of the line-up owing to his poor form. However, the veteran cricketer never gave up as he kept going about his business in the domestic circuit. He brought the best out of himself in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League.
Ajinkya RahaneSurprisingly, the Indian team management named him in the squad for the WTC final 2023 against Australia. The highly-anticipated World Test Championship final between India and Australia will go all guns blazing at The Kennington Oval in London.
Rahane will be looking forward to showcasing his mettle in the forthcoming World Test Championship final. On the other hand, his last Test appearance was back against South Africa in January 2022. Soon after knowing that he has been selected for India's squad for the WTC final, he expressed his delight.
“I'm really happy to be back with the Indian team after maybe 18, 19 months. This is something really special for me. I want to keep continuing my batting form. I don't want to think too much about the format, I don't want to complicate things. The more I keep it simple. It will be better,” said Ajinkya Rahane.
“It was an emotional moment for me. When I got dropped the support from my family was massive. The dream was still to play for India and that's what I told my family. I worked hard on my fitness, my game plan and everything. Went back to domestic cricket, and had a very good domestic season for Mumbai. And when I got a call the moment was emotional for me and my family as they backed me a lot, they supported me a lot to go through that period, two years," added Rahane.
The experienced campaigner represented Team India in 82 Tests wherein he scored 4931 runs at an average of 38.5. Notably, he slammed as many as 12 centuries and 25 fifties, registering his personal best score of 188.
