Jhye Avon Richardson (born September 20, 1996) is an Australian cricketer. He made his domestic cricket debut in October 2015 and his international debut for the Australian national cricket team in February 2017.
Domestic and franchise career
A fast right arm bowler, Richardson says that because of his height (178 cm) and build ("70 odd pounds"), he was initially discouraged by coaches from becoming a pace bowler, a role they generally do taller and heavier is associated with cricketers. He made his A List debut for Western Australia on October 21, 2015 at the Matador BBQs One-Day Cup 2015/16. In December 2015 he was named to Australia's squad for the 2016 U19 World Cricket Championship.
On January 16, 2016, he made his Twenty20 debut for the Perth Scorchers in the 2015/16 Big Bash League. He made his first-class debut for Western Australia on March 15, 2016 in the 2015-16 Sheffield Shield. In the 2016-17 Big Bash League, Richardson claimed 11 wickets for the Scorchers and was named Player of the Game in the final after winning 3/30 when the Scorchers defeated the Sydney Sixers.
In November 2018, Richardson picked up the best career of his career with 8/47 in the first innings against New South Wales at Optus Stadium. In February 2021, Richardson was bought by the Punjab Kings in the IPL auction ahead of the 2021 Indian Premier League and also by Welsh Fire for the 2021 opening season of The Hundred tournament.
International career
In February 2017, Richardson was named to Australia's Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the series against Sri Lanka. He made his debut at Twenty20 International (T20I) on February 19, 2017 for Australia against Sri Lanka at Kardinia Park, Geelong. In January 2018, he was named to Australia's One Day International (ODI) squad for the series against England. He made his ODI debut for Australia against England on January 19, 2018. Later that month he was named to Australia's test squad for their series against South Africa in March 2018, but did not play.
In April 2018 he received a national contract from Cricket Australia for the 2018/19 season. In January 2019, Richardson was named to the squad for the ODI series against India. He made his first game at the Sydney Cricket Ground and returned with his career highs of 4/26, including Indian captain Virat Kohli's wicket to make Australia his 1,000th. to help international victory in all formats. Richardson has been added to Australia's test squad for the series against Sri Lanka, replacing injured Josh Hazlewood. He made his Test debut for Australia on January 24, 2019 against Sri Lanka, taking three wickets in the first innings.
