Muhammad Waseem born 12 February 1996 is a Pakistani-born cricketer who plays for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team.
Personal Life
Waseem was born in Pakistan and grew up in the Punjabi town of Mian Channu. He qualified to compete in the UAE in April 2021 by fulfilling the ICC's three-year residency requirements.
Franchise Career
On 3 February 2021, Waseem tied the record for fastest fifty in a T10 cricket match with twelve balls in the 2021 T10 League. In May 2021, he was called up to the Multan Sultans squad as a substitute for the 2021 Pakistan Super League.
International Career
In October 2021 he was named to the UAE Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the 2021 Summer T20 Bash tournament. He made his T20I debut for UAE against Namibia on October 5, 2021. Five days later, in the United Arab Emirates game against Ireland, Waseem scored his first century in T20I cricket, with 107 not from 62 balls.
In November 2021, he was named to the UAE's One Day International (ODI) squad for the 2021 Namibia Tri-Nation Series. He was also called up to UAE's ODI squad for their series against Oman in February 2022. He made his ODI debut for UAE against Oman on February 5, 2022.
Waseem was named UAE captain in March 2023, replacing CP Rizwan for the 2023 United Arab Emirates Tri-Nation Series final. His first full series was the Nepal Tri-Nation Series, the final series of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 of the UAE 2019-2023. Waseem scored his first ODI century against Papua New Guinea in the Nepal series, hitting 119 balls from 76 including 12 sixes. His 61-ball century set a new UAE record for fastest ODI century but was surpassed by Asif Khan's 41-ball century the following day.
