Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Shan Masood and Shaheen Afridi as the Test and T20I captains of the national team in Pakistan, they lost the test series against Australia 0-3 and ended with a 1-4 defeat against New Zealand in the t20 series.
After that back to back defeat It seems that the Pakistan Cricket Board no longer believes that Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi can guide the national team, and that former captain Babar Azam is the ideal candidate to take the steering wheel once more.
With the unsuccessful campaign in India ( 2023 CWC), Babar was immediately removed from his position as white ball captain in the Pakistan team.In the meantime, he decided to resign from his position as red-ball captain as well. Zaka Ashraf was the PCB chairman during that time.
PCB Sources suggest that Babar was the best option to lead the team once more, but there was no other genuine option.
"The funny part is that the powers that be appear to have lost faith in Shan Masood and Shaheen Shah Afridi's ability to lead the national side in Test and T20 formats with the change in the board's chairmanship," a source confided.
Feelers have been sent out to Babar to find out if he is ready to take charge again and he has shown some reservations. Apparently, he wants some assurances from the board chairman," the source added
According to the source, it has also been determined that the chairman will meet with Babar and older players like Imad Wasim and Muhammad Amir shortly to clear up any misunderstandings.
