Bangladesh’s tour of New Zealand concluded on Sunday. Even though the T20I series was drawn, the Tigers lost in the ODI series. However, the Bangladesh bowlers made this trip memorable. After their first win at home against New Zealand in the third ODI, Bangladesh got a good win at in the first T20I. Pacers Shoriful Islam and Tanzim Hasan Sakib caught attention separately.
Sakib was man of the match after taking 3 wickets in the ODI win. Shoriful bowled well in both series. He also became the best player in the T20I series. Such performance of the two teammates also impressed another member of the U-19 World Cup winning team, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury.
Mrittunjoy gets motivation from the performance of his teammates. Mrittunjoy also likes to work hard. In an interview given to the media, Mrittunjoy said, “We became world champions together. Shoriful was my roommate. I like it when we talk. Tanzim Sakib is also doing very well. Both my teammates are playing well and that motivates me. They are doing so well it is a gain for the country as well. I feel good for them.”
Many regular cricketers including experienced Shakib, Tamim, Riyad, Taskin were not present in the New Zealand series. However, in the absence of seniors, the youth took the responsibility. Mrittunjoy believes that the youth will do better in the future.
Mrittunjoy added, “Most of the players in the current team are young players. Young players winning matches is a big plus point for us. Because in the future our senior players will retire. The future cricket team is in the hands of young players like us. Such a performance by the young players on New Zealand soil bodes well for the future. InshaAllah our young players will do well in the future.”
