The Quetta Gladiators have been given timely reinforcements for their bid to turn around their 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) season: New Zealander Mark Chapman has formally joined the Pakistan team
New Zealand batsman Mark Chapman has reached Pakistan to play for the Quetta Gladiators in the current tenth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 10).
In a video the franchise uploaded on its social media platforms, Chapman is seen hugging his mentor Sir Vivian Richards before he opens up his sport bag to wear the Gladiators jersey.
The New Zealand all-rounder expressed his happiness at making his PSL debut and the fun he experienced with his New Zealand mates, subsequently claiming that he has always had a good time in Pakistan.
"Hello guys, I'm Mark Chapman. I've played here in Pakistan all my life. In Quetta, we've got some old faces, obviously, a few New Zealand players who are over the moon to be here, and obviously a lot who've played against the Pakistani side. I'm excited to play with them," Chapman said in a video message.
"Mark Chapman joined us this morning and will be part of today's crucial training session," Quetta Gladiators team manager Azam Khan said in the local newspaper. "Chapman's signing is a big boost for us. He's a player who can deal with pressure and counter-attack when required—just what our middle order requires."
Mark Chapman contributes a T20 strike rate of more than 135 and unmatched knowledge of the game. His pressure-holding ability and capacity to rule spin bowling make him a perfect addition to Quetta's middle order—a middle order that has been lacking consistency thus far in the tournament.
For those unfamiliar, the Gladiators currently sit fourth in the PSL 10 standings with two points from three matches. They lost two consecutive matches after opening their season with a decisive 120-point victory over their arch-rivals Peshawar Zalmi.
Their next match is on Friday at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore against the Karachi Kings.
