Scenario in Dhaka Test turned in exact the opposite direction from the Chittagong; while batsmen ruled endlessly in the first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, it is bowlers, especially to say spinners who supremely shined over everything at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in the first day of the series deciding Test. No less than 14 wickets tumbled down at day 1 – 9 of them were bagged by spinners from both sides. In the spinning track, a rare record emerged when Bangladesh skipper in charge Mahmudullah Riyad initiated the first innings with spinners from both sides of the bowling end. Mehedi Hasan Miraz delivered the first over of the innings, although he could not take any wickets, other opening spinner Abdur Razzak claimed 4 of them returning in the side after four years. This is just the second time in the history of Test cricket when the first innings of the match was started by spinners from all ends. The first one, was, however, occurred 54 years ago. In 1964, the Indian side led by Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi started the bowling innings against England with two spinners. The occurrence was inevitable as India selected no specialist pacers in the team for that particular match in Kanpur. ML Jaisimha and Salim Durrani opened the bowling respectively from two ends. India failed to capitalize the spin in that match, no new ball spinners could make a breakthrough. England declared their first innings scoring 559 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. The match ended in a lifeless draw.
