On Friday, July 5, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared a cash prize of Rs 11 crore for the Indian cricket team that emerged victorious in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
In addition to announcing Rs 11 crore in prize money for the entire squad, Maharashtra Chief Minister congratulated Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for their contributions to India's T20 World Cup victory. In particular, he complimented Suryakumar Yadav for his outstanding catch during the decisive game against South Africa.
In addition, the Maharashtra government extended an invitation to Mumbai's Vidhan Sabha cricket players to celebrate in front of the Legislative Assembly. The Legislative Assembly members of Maharashtra gave Rohit Sharma a hearty welcome. In his remarks, the Indian captain who won the World Cup thanked Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for inviting him and his team.
DCM Ajit Pawar said that if Surya had failed to bring the ball down, it would have discouraged not just Rohit Sharma but everyone else as well. He continued by saying that Indians have really strong emotions.
We are very proud of the Indian team for winning the World Cup back home, DCM Devendra Fadnavis added. Fadnavis insisted that Mumbai obtain a larger cricket stadium that can hold one lakh spectators, a demand he made to CM Shinde and BCCI secretary Ashish Shelar.
