In breaking news, Sri Lanka's T20 World Cup-winning fast bowler Nuwan Kulasekara has made up his mind to call curtains on his international cricketing career with immediate effect on Wednesday, as per local media reports in Sri Lanka. The 37-year-old Nuwan Kulasekara was not part of Sri Lanka's World Cup 2019 squad and was last seen plying his trade for the national team in 2017. Also, Kulasekara hasn't played any competitive cricket at the senior level since March 2018 during which he appeared only in List-A cricket. Nuwan Kulasekara's potential has never been in doubt. He is one of the important parts of Sri Lanka cricket history. He is well known for the knack of swinging the ball both ways and often proved to be a nightmare for opposition opening batsmen as he is a productive new-ball bowler for Sri Lanka, especially in the limited-over formats. Well, not to forget that Kulasekara was also a fine bowler at slog overs as he had the ability to deliver pin-point yorkers The pacer made his ODI debut as a 21-year-old prospect in a home series against England in the year 2003. Two years later, Kulasekara went on to represent his country as a Test debutant in Napier. The right-arm pacer has by far played 184 ODIs for Sri Lanka and picked up 199 wickets to his name at an impressive economy rate of 4.90. He has played 58 T20Is and finished with 66 wickets. Kulasekara was a phenomenal part of the glorious Sri Lanka team that clinched the T20 World Cup in 2014 against India. Though Kulasekara enjoyed a fair bit of success in limited-overs, he did not find the same in Test matches. He played just 21 Test matches before retiring from Tests in 2016. Kulasekara climbed to the No. 1 spot in ODI bowlers' rankings in 2008, just a year after he made his World Cup debut for Sri Lanka. Interestingly, Kulasekara was part of Sri Lanka's 3 World Cup squads. In fact, he played 2 World Cup finals and also finished with runners-up medals on both occasions as Sri Lanka lost to Australia and India in the 2007 and 2011 World Cup finals.
