'Batting is making difference between two teams' - Jayasuriya

During an interrogation by an Indian Government Agency, a businessman named the above mentioned cricketers. The Director of Revenue Intelligence of the Indian Government seized betel nuts worth millions of rupees in Nagpur. Media reports further stated the betel nuts were shipped from Indonesia to Sri Lanka before being smuggled to India. The reason behind this smuggling could have been to exploit the South Asian Free Trade Area. Under SAFTA (South Asian Free Trade Area), taxes are waived off for consignments between Sri Lanka and India if the goods are produced indigenously in those countries and sold to each other. However, there is a huge import duty (108 per cent) if betel nuts are imported from Indonesia. The team has called on Jayasuriya for questioning in Mumbai and a letter has been sent to the Government of Sri Lanka for further legal action. According to sources, two other cricketers will be called for interrogation within December 2. The cricketers are said to have used their stardom and popularity to get the trade and export licences from the Sri Lankan authorities to form the dummy companies in Sri Lanka as well as create fake documents certifying that the betel nuts were produced in Sri Lanka. The Indian businessmen from Nagpur make most of profit by importing betel nut. The businessmen in Sri Lanka sell the rotten betel nuts to their Indian counterparts in Nagpur at just 25% of its original price. In that case, betel nut worts Rs 100 crore is bought for Rs 25 crore by Indian businessmen - who then spuriously mix it with betel nut of good quality and supply to different parts of the country. Jayasuriya, one of the heroes of Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup triumph and a former chairman of selectors was charged with breaching the ICC Code of Conduct in October. Jayasuriya is the nation's greatest cricket hero of all time. In 445 ODIs, he scored 13430 runs including 28 hundreds. In 110 Tests, he scored 6973 runs including 14 hundreds. He had also prolific all-round capabilites taking 323 wickets from 445 ODIs.
