The match ended after all the strange activities in Cape Town. India ended the series 1-1 with a 7-wicket win. South Africa's veteran cricketer Dean Elgar ended his Test career with this match.
Elgar had already informed that he would bid farewell to Test cricket with the India series. Due to the injury of the regular captain Temba Bavuma, Elgar also got the responsibility of the captain in the farewell match. Despite not winning the match, this Proteas cricketer received the greetings of the Indian team after the match. Indian captain Rohit Sharma handed over a jersey with autographs of all Indian cricketers to Elgar.
Elgar's farewell match ended within two days. Elgar scored 4 runs off 15 balls in the first innings. In the second innings, he played an innings of 12 runs off 28 balls. In the previous match, however, he played a devastating innings of 185 runs.
Indian cricketer Virat Kohli showed great respect to Elgar even during the match. He didn’t allow the team to celebrate after Elgar was dismissed in the second innings. That video has already gone viral on the internet. Kohli congratulated Elgar by hugging him as he left the field after playing his last Test innings.
At the post-match award ceremony, Rohit said, “Elgar such an important player for South Africa (on Elgar). Very, very gritty, and his wicket - we spoke about how we want to get him out quickly. We appreciate what he has done for South Africa. Brilliant career - best wishes ahead!”
