Bangladesh are making its mark in the Caribbean with dominant performances in the T20 format. The Tigers have secured two memorable victories in the first two matches of the three-match T20 series, putting them on the verge of a potential whitewash against the West Indies.
One of the most vocal supporters of Bangladesh's success has been former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop, who has consistently praised the Tigers for their outstanding performances. Bishop, a long-time admirer of Bangladesh cricket, expressed his excitement over the team’s success from the commentary box. His support for the team is evident whenever a Bangladeshi player shines on the field, including his admiration for the bowling of Nahid Rana during the recent Test series. Following Rana's debut in the Afghanistan series, Bishop had also urged the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to take care of the young bowler's development.
After Bangladesh’s impressive T20 series win, Bishop took to X (formerly Twitter), stating: " Well played to Bangladesh. Not many have then a chance to win the T20i series after the ODI series loss. Their bowling group is exceptional."
Bangladesh had previously drawn the two-match Test series 1-1 against the West Indies. Although they lost the first Test, the Tigers bounced back to win the second. In the subsequent ODI series, however, Bangladesh suffered a 3-0 whitewash. Despite the challenges in the longer formats, Bangladesh’s performance in T20s has been nothing short of exceptional.
With two victories already in hand, Bangladesh has secured the series, with one match left to play. If they win the final match, they will complete a whitewash on West Indian soil.
Bangladesh’s bowlers have been exceptional throughout the series, with players like Sheikh Mehedi Hasan and Taskin Ahmed leading the charge. Their collective efforts have proven crucial in restricting West Indies’ batting. In the first match, Hasan Mahmud’s calm and collected death bowling in the final over was also a highlight, contributing to the team’s overall success.
While the batters haven’t lit up the scoreboard as much, Shamim Hossain Patowary's fiery finishing has been key to Bangladesh setting competitive totals in both matches. His contributions with the bat helped Bangladesh post challenging scores, which were then defended effectively by the bowlers, securing victories in both encounters.
