Riyan Parag was unexpectedly selected for the One-Day International and T20 International squads for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, which will start in Pallekele on July 27.

Notably, newly appointed T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav praised Parag's discipline and dedication to the game.  Suryakumar has been effusive in his appreciation of Parag ahead of the first T20 International in Pallekele, reiterating his belief that the all-rounder handled the trolls admirably and expressing his joy at having Parag on the team.

In the pre-match press conference Suryakumar said, “Trolling happens everywhere, not just in cricket, it happens in every sport. How a sportsman deals with it is important. I rate him very highly. I had said this before the IPL as well, when I had met him at NCA when both of us had gone there for rehab, I had told him that there is an 'X-Factor' in him. He just needs to sideline all the distractions and focus on this (his cricket). He realized that in the IPL, he was quite a different player in the last 3-4 years.”
