With the Sylhet Test delicately poised, Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett has his eyes set firmly on a rare overseas Test win. At the end of Day 2, Zimbabwe lead by 25 runs, after dismissing Bangladesh for 191 in the first innings and posting 273 in reply. The Tigers began their second innings strongly, finishing at 57 for 1 before stumps.

Speaking at the post-day press conference, Zimbabwe’s opening batter Brian Bennett shared his optimism about the match situation and stressed the importance of maintaining momentum. “I think it's been great opportunity to win the game. I mean, we're still 20, 30 runs ahead. Our bowlers have had a rest today, so we're going to come back tomorrow, fighting hard. You never know what can happen. There's still lots of time left in this test match, so we're going to come out tomorrow, we're going to give We're doing our best,” Bennett said.

Reflecting on the pitch conditions, Bennett mentioned that the surface had evolved over time, “I think it is becoming a little bit easier to battle now. Obviously, there's a little bit more turn in the first innings, but I think it is coming on a bit better than it was on the first day, first morning session. So I think, yes, it might change. So we'll just have to see how it goes.”

Bennett, who was dismissed by Nahid Rana, acknowledged the bowler’s pace and his own error in execution, “He's got some good pace on him, but I think for me, I think the faster the ball comes, the further I can hit it. So it's just that watching the ball all the way. And my dismissal had worked for me today. My cuts were on point. So I think it was just a bit of a mis-execution.”

Zimbabwe did miss some opportunities in the field, particularly a few catches — but Bennett insists the team remains united, “we had too many chances later this evening, but no one wants to drop a catch. No one drops a catch on purpose. So we're just going to back each other. No one's going to be shouting at each other for dropping a catch. So I think tomorrow, we'll watch out for this session this evening, and tomorrow we'll come back stronger.”

For Zimbabwe, a Test win in Bangladesh would be a huge achievement — and Bennett is fully aware of the opportunity. “It's not often we can come to Bangladesh and win a test match. So to be in a commanding position like this today, we feel like we've got a very good chance and we just have to back ourselves tomorrow. Back the 11, if not 11, 15 guys on the bench as well.”
