In what is being hailed as one of Bangladesh cricket’s greatest achievements, the Tigers swept Pakistan 2-0 on their home soil in a historic Test series. Following this triumph, Bangladesh’s interim government head and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, personally called captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to extend his congratulations to the team.
Earlier, during a post-match press conference, Shanto revealed that Dr. Yunus expressed immense pride in the team’s performance and stated his desire to meet with the players after their return to Bangladesh. A press release from the interim government also echoed this sentiment, where Dr. Yunus remarked, “On behalf of the government and myself, I extend heartfelt congratulations to the team. The entire nation is beaming with pride because of your incredible achievement.”
The meeting between the Bangladesh cricket team and Dr. Yunus is set to take place on September 12. Shakib Al Hasan, who is currently playing county cricket in England, is not expected to attend, but BCB president Faruque Ahmed will accompany the squad for the meeting, as confirmed by BCB sources.
This historic series saw Bangladesh claim their first-ever Test series win on Pakistani soil, with the Tigers winning the first Test by 10 wickets and the second by six wickets. As the celebrations settle, the team now turns its focus toward their upcoming series against India, which includes two Tests and three T20Is.
