Anton Roux has announced his resignation as Sri Lanka's national fielding coach, bringing an end to a notable tenure that began in March 2022. The former South African cricketer, who previously coached the Netherlands, has served Sri Lanka through a period of both challenge and triumph.

In a heartfelt post on LinkedIn, Roux revealed that he made the decision to step down on August 14, 2024. "It has been an immense honour and a truly humbling experience to serve the Sri Lankan national cricket team. I will forever cherish the memories and experiences that came with this journey,” Roux stated.

Roux’s final stint with Sri Lanka saw him witnessing some memorable moments, including the third and final Test at the Oval where Sri Lanka secured an eight-wicket victory over England. This win marked Sri Lanka’s first Test victory in England in a decade. Roux reflected on the electric atmosphere and the passionate support from fans during this period of crisis in Sri Lanka. “Witnessing the resilience and unity of the Sri Lankan people, especially during the incredible series win against Australia on home soil, was a testament to what this nation and team can achieve when it comes together,” he noted.

Throughout his tenure, Roux played a pivotal role in enhancing the fielding standards of the Sri Lankan team, which contributed to their success in various formats. Under his guidance, the team reached two Asia Cup finals and won the 2022 Asia T20 Cup. “Reaching two Asia Cup finals and ultimately winning the 2022 Asia T20 Cup was a spectacular achievement that demonstrated the true potential of this team,” Roux said.

In addition to his work with the men’s team, Roux praised the progress of the Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Team. He was impressed by their hunger, passion, and athletic ability, which he believes have made them a beacon of hope and inspiration for women in Sri Lanka.

Roux also expressed his gratitude to those who supported him during his tenure, including Mahela Jayawardene, Tom Moody, Tim McCaskill, and Chris Silverwood. He also shared a personal connection to Sri Lanka, as it is the country of birth for his second son, Aiden. The care and love his family received at Joseph Fraser Hospital in Colombo will always be a cherished memory.

As Roux concludes his role with Sri Lanka Cricket, the team will next host New Zealand in a two-match Test series, followed by a series in South Africa. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Sri Lankan cricket, with Roux leaving behind a legacy of enhanced fielding standards and memorable achievements.
