Rangpur Division captain Akbar Ali has been handed a two-match suspension following an incident of aggressive behavior towards the umpire and damaging a chair with his bat during the fifth-round match of the National Cricket League (NCL). This penalty means Akbar will miss the remainder of this season's NCL.

The incident occurred during Rangpur's fifth-round match against Barishal Division at the Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi. Akbar displayed frustration by showing aggression towards the umpire and later struck a chair with his bat after being dismissed. These actions were categorized as a Level 2 offense by the NCL Technical Committee, warranting his suspension for two matches.

The NCL has completed five rounds so far, with two rounds remaining. However, the ban ensures that Akbar Ali will not feature in the remaining matches of the 2024 NCL season.

In the Barishal match, Akbar scored 21 runs in the first innings and took two wickets with the ball. The match ultimately ended in a draw.

Akbar Ali is best remembered as the captain who led Bangladesh's U19 team to their maiden ICC U-19 World Cup victory in 2020. His calm and composed innings in the final remains a highlight of his career. Recently, he also captained the Bangladesh side in the Emerging Asia Cup.

Despite being a familiar name in domestic cricket, Akbar is yet to make his international debut.
