India pacer Akash Deep is relishing the experience of playing alongside two of the biggest stars in world cricket – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. As India gears up for the Kanpur Test against Bangladesh, Akash shared his excitement about learning from the duo, both of whom have become icons in modern cricket. Despite their departure from T20Is, Rohit and Kohli continue to be pillars of India’s Test and ODI squads, leading the team to numerous victories on the global stage.
Reflecting on the privilege of sharing the dressing room with these cricket giants, Akash Deep spoke about how witnessing their dedication and work ethic up close has been a motivating factor for him. "Everyone who reaches this level is already a legend. Watching Rohit bhai and Virat bhai work so hard and stay committed to their routines has been a huge learning experience for me. Their thought process and the way they train are at a completely different level, which inspires us to work even harder," Akash explained.
Ahead of the upcoming Kanpur Test, Akash, who hails from Benares, also shared his early memories of the Green Park Stadium. He humorously recalled, "I am from Banaras, which is not far from here. I had heard of the stadium - Green Park - when I was young, and I thought that it's because the whole ground was green. I hadn't seen any stadiums at the time. I remembered it after coming here, that the first stadium I had heard of was Green Park. It feels nice, that I am here, at the place I had heard of as a kid."
Akash also expressed his admiration for India's captain, Rohit Sharma. "I am very fortunate to play for India under Rohit Sharma. He keeps things so simple. I had some hesitation when I came to the Indian team, about the pressure, some confusion… but when I got to the ground, [Rohit] bhaiya made things so simple for me that I didn't know if I was playing domestic cricket or international cricket. I don't think in my life I could have asked for a captain who makes things so simple," he added.
