Virat Kohli jokes with Shakib Al Hasan, Lasith Malinga reacts to viral video
The event took place on day two of the first Test in Chennai, during India’s second innings. As Shakib bowled two consecutive yorkers to Kohli in the 15th over, the Indian batter couldn’t resist a joke. With a smile, he turned to Shakib and asked, "Have you turned into Malinga? Back-to-back yorkers?"

In a light-hearted moment during the India-Bangladesh Test series, Virat Kohli shared an amusing exchange with Shakib Al Hasan, bringing some humor to an otherwise intense game. The unexpected twist? Even Sri Lankan bowling legend Lasith Malinga got involved, despite not being present on the field, and his reaction took social media by storm.
Malinga, known for his lethal yorkers, last played an international match in 2020. Seeing Shakib bowl such deliveries clearly reminded Kohli of the Sri Lankan pace maestro. Shakib, amused by Kohli's comment, laughed and nodded as he returned to his fielding position.
A video of the interaction soon went viral on social media, where Kohli can be heard calling Shakib “Malinga” several times. According to Indian newspaper Aajkaal, Kohli even referred to Shakib as “My Malli” at one point, a phrase that momentarily confused the Bangladeshi all-rounder until Kohli clarified his reference to the Sri Lankan legend.
It didn’t take long for the clip to reach Malinga, who responded with a retweet. Adding his own flair, Malinga captioned the viral post in Sinhala, writing "Niyamai Malli," which translates to "Great, brother."
