Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan thinks after the series defeat against USA that it is a wake-up call for the team ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

After a miserable 5-wicket defeat in the first match, Bangladesh lost the second match also by 6 runs on Thursday (May 23) in Prairie View. USA clinched the series with one match in hand and won their first-ever series against a full-member team

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first in the second match of the series. They bowled well and restricted USA for 144 runs in 20 overs. In the chase, though Bangladesh started shakily, they were on the way to win. But towards the end, the batters failed massively and lost 5 wickets in the last 5 overs. So, they were bundled out for 138 runs in 19.3 overs.

In the press conference after the match, Shakib said, “It is very disappointing. But having said that we have to play the World Cup and this series might be a wake-up call for us as we haven't played the way we want to play.”

Shakib also says that they didn’t take USA lightly, it’s their plan which they failed to execute in both the matches. "I don't think we took them lightly. In the first game maybe we couldn't do what we wanted to do and in the second game exactly the same thing happened - we couldn't execute the plans that we were supposed to do on the ground,” Shakib added.
