A case was going on in the court against the Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane on the charge of molesting a woman. A Kathmandu court has sentenced Lamichhane to eight years in prison for the crime of rape, according to the Kathmandu Post.

Lamichhane was accused of molesting an 18-year-old woman in Kathmandu District Court. The case was handed down today (January 10) after the allegations were proven last month. Lamichhane has been sentenced to 8 years in prison. He has also been fined. He has been fined Rs 300,000 (USD 2255 approx). Along with this, Lamichhane has been asked to pay Rs 200,000 (USD 1500 approx) to the oppressed person.

In September 2022, Lamichhan was charged with molestation at the Kathmandu police station. He was the captain of Nepal at that time. Lamichhane was then in the West Indies playing for Caribbean Premier League (CPL) side Jamaica Tallawahs. Lamichhane hurriedly returned home in early October. Later the police arrested him at the airport. Given the incident, the Nepal Cricket Board announced to remove of him from the post of captain.

Later in February 2023, Lamichhane returned to the game. He played in ODIs, T20 World Cup qualifiers, and Asia Cup main event. However, as a result of this eight-year imprisonment, Lamichhan's cricket career has ended somehow.
