Multan Sultans, the defending Pakistan Super League champions, are back in the PSL finals against the Lahore Qalandars. This game promises to be a hard fought match between two teams that have proven to be significantly better than the others.
Final Preview
The Multan Sultans will face the Lahore Qalandars in the 34th game of the 2022 Pakistan Super League at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Multan Sultan
Multan Sultans have played 11 games in the series and will look to consolidate their top spot, while Lahore Qalandars have played 12 games in the series and are currently second in the points table.
The Multan Sultans will be the favorites in this competition, but they will know they can't take anything for granted in this competition. Tim David, one of their hitters, was unavailable for qualifying as he tested positive for COVID. It is highly unlikely that he will also take part in the PSL 2022 final.
However, there's still plenty of depth in the team as Shan Masood, Mohammad Rizwan, Rilee Rossouw and Johnson Charles should all be part of the line-up. Masood and Rizwan have been very consistent but they may feel a little pressured without Tim David becoming more explosive in the lineup.
Rilee Rossouw and Khushdil Shah both have excellent batting averages and we know David Willey or even Johnson Charles can play attacking cricket when required.
In terms of batting, Tim David's absence will make a difference, but the Multan Sultans still remain the stronger batting force in this competition.
The Multan Sultans bowling lineup can get a bit of pressure but the fact that Shahnawaz Dahani had a good game last time out is a positive for them. David Willey, Imran Tahir and Khushdil Shah will all be hoping to use the slow surface to their advantage as well.
The Multan Sultans are predictable in their strategy and that's because it worked for them. They've won ten games out of eleven played, an unbelievable success rate, and so they have to repeat the same processes this time as well.
LAHORE QALANDARS
The Lahore Qalandars snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in their previous game. They appeared dead and buried before a brilliant bowling performance from Shaheen Afridi, Zaman Khan and Haris Rauf lured them back into the game. David Wiese's contribution should also not be forgotten.
The bowling firepower of the Lahore Qalandars is simply phenomenal. You can always push and you are never out of the game.
They just need their batsmen to back them up. The focus will be on Fakhar Zaman, PSL 2022's best batsman by far. He may have failed in the previous game but he's not someone you want to bet against.
The rest of the cotton looks a bit thin though. Phil Salt and Harry Brook might find the conditions a bit difficult and Mohammad Hafeez was unavailable for most of PSL 2022.
Kamran Ghulam and Abdullah Shafique are two good Pakistani players up front who can make a difference. We don't think this batting lineup is as good as the Multan Sultans, but it's not too weak either.
Finally, you have to consider the advantage of playing at home to a jubilant full house. Players like Shaheen Afridi are taking on the situation and the PSL 2022 final is one of the biggest yet.
Match Prediction
Lahore Qalandars have performed very well in this competition so far. Her top order, lower order and bowling was brilliant. If they win the final, it will be their first PSL title ever.
Multan Sultans, on the other hand, are the defending champions and they are the best team of this tournament so far. Every single member of their squad contributed to their journey to the finals. The Multan Sultans are expected to retain their title.
Prediction: Multan Sultans to win.
Head to Head
In the 12 games between these two sides, Lahore Qalandars have won 5 games and Multan Sultans have won 7 games. Bowlers from both teams have earned the most fantasy points for their respective teams so far.
Pitch Report & Condition
There is absolutely no rain forecast for the match day, so DLS calculations will not come into play. As far as pitch goes, it's gotten pretty slow and the big hits get difficult towards the end. Getting one step ahead when chasing is crucial as it can be difficult for new hitters to start quickly.
We think a score of around 160-170 should be considered equivalent.
Toss Prediction
The team that wins the toss will want to bat first. This is a big advantage as the field slows down significantly towards the end of the second inning.
Betting Tips
We bet on the victory of the Lahore Qalandars. From a pure cricket perspective, the Multan Sultans were the better team, but they'll probably be without Tim David in this match and their bowling is also a bit suspect. The Lahore Qalandars have a better bowling attack, play at home and have some players who shine on the biggest stage.
Getting slightly better odds on them to win this match is pretty good.
Bet on the Lahore Qalandars to win.
