Leicestershire meets Warwickshire at Grace Road, Leicester. This T20 game starts on Friday, May 26th at 18:30 local time.
It was a disappointing start to the campaign for Leicestershire, who were beaten by Lancashire Lightning with 8 wickets and 51 balls remaining on Thursday afternoon. Only two players have scored in double figures at Old Trafford and that needs to change in this game if the Foxes are to be competitive.
It was a convincing 34-run win over the Yorkshire Vikings for Warwickshire at Edgbaston last Saturday and, under the guidance of Alex Davies, the Bears will travel to Leicester for the game full of confidence. Glenn Maxwell will be available for this game.
Team Preview
Leicestershire
Leicestershire already started their campaign in Vitality Blast 2023 with a game against Lancashire yesterday. They lost that game quite badly as Lancashire had no trouble getting past Leicestershire with an impressive lead of 8 wickets and 51 balls to go. The Leicestershire team were the first to score a total of 99 runs. The Lancashire side managed to reach the goal in just 11.3 overs, losing just two wickets in the process. Leicestershire's batting performance got off to a terrible start, with many of their top-flight batsmen not contributing much to the overall result.
The first real opposition to Lancashire bowling came from Wiaan Mulder, who hit 25 runs from 24 balls with a pair of fours. Aside from Mulder, only wicket-keeper batsman Harry Swindells managed to break into double figures. The bowlers who wreaked this havoc were Luke Wood and Saqib Mahmood. They took 3 wickets each and gave away 11 and 17 runs respectively. Colin de Grandhomme was also successful in taking 2 wickets for 28 runs from his 4 overs.
Leicestershire bowler Mulder also managed to grab an early wicket in the Lancashire inning when he sacked Luke Wells for just four runs. But after that, Lancashire wicket-keeper-batsman Phil Salt had a good partnership with Steven Croft, who hit 46 runs without an out of 34 balls with 5 fours and a six. Along with Daryl Mitchell, he brought the Lancashire team home with no nasty surprises. Leicestershire's bowling attack was listless and after Wiaan Mulder picked the early wicket he also made plenty of runs.
Warwickshire
The Warwickshire team started their campaign in the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 on a winning note. In this Northern Group match, played in Birmingham on 20 May, the team took on the Yorkshire team. The Birmingham Bears were the first to score 200 runs and lose 6 wickets in the process. It was a huge goal and although the Yorkshire team made a valiant attempt to reach the goal, they ended up falling 34 runs short of the mark. The entire Yorkshire team was bowled out for 166 runs for 19.5 overs.
Despite setting a good goal in the end, the Birmingham Bears didn't get off to a good start. Her 3 wickets were down 32 runs from 4.2 overs, but player of the match Sam Hain hit 83 runs from 45 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. This superb inning was a major factor in Birmingham achieving an impressive overall win. He was actively supported by Chris Benjamin. Benjamin hit 46 runs from 28 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Matthew Revis was the only Yorkshire bowler to evade punishment, also catching a couple of wickets in the process.
The Yorkshire batting side immediately found themselves in difficult waters. They were five wickets fewer than 34 runs in 6 overs. Only Dawid Malan made a meaningful contribution with 43 runs from 29 balls early in the innings. Dom Bess and Jafer Chohan were involved in a useful partnership lower down the rankings but it was all a desperate effort and victory was never an option for the Yorkshire team after losing wickets early on. Henry Brookes was the Bears' bowler choice, taking 4 wickets for 32 runs from 3.5 overs.
Pitch Report
Leicester is expected to be sporty. A competitive game seems to be imminent on Friday. Teams should choose to perform first after winning the toss.
Match Prediction
Both teams had different fortunes in their previous games. Warwickshire will go into the game as top favorites as Leicestershire appear to be lacking in punching power.
Prediction: Warwickshire will win this Vitality T20 Blast 2023 competition.
Head to Head
So far, 18 matches have been played between these two teams in the T20 format, resulting in a result. Birmingham Bears have won 11 of those games while Leicestershire have won seven. This is the first time these two teams have met this season. Birmingham Bears have won 7 of those games with a first strike compared to Leicestershire who have won 5 games with a first strike.
Betting Tips
After yesterday's defeat, the Leicestershire team need to get their focus back on this game quickly. This game's visitors were bolstered by the availability of Glenn Maxwell for this game after completing his stint in the IPL at RCB. Maxwell will likely enjoy the conditions and push the limits quite a bit. He's not the only batsman contributing to the Birmingham Bears' depth of batting. If you compare the two teams, you'll find that the Birmingham Bears have a much better team man-to-man. We bet the Warwickshire that we win this game.
Weather Report
On the day of the match the weather in Leicester is expected to be partly cloudy but still a suitable environment for cricket. The temperature should remain constant at 19 degrees Celsius throughout the day.
