After winning the first match of the series, a hot and humid day-night contest in Mohali, by 5 wickets with 8 balls remaining on Friday, India begins the second ODI against Australia in Indore on Sunday. The game is part of both teams' preparations for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. This match starts at 1:30pm local time at Holkar Cricket Stadium.
India registered a comfortable win over the Aussies in the first game of the three-match series in Mohali, breaking the Mohali curse against the Aussies. This is India's first win against Aussies in Mohali in seven ODIs since 1996. The action now shifts to Indore for the second ODI.
Both teams were missing some of their key players. India rested players like Kohli, Rohit, Siraj and Kuldeep and Australia benched Starc, Hazlewood and Maxwell for fitness reasons.
However, the fact that a number of fringe players who would not have been part of the starting XI are performing particularly well presents a surplus problem for both sides ahead of the World Cup.
Even though Australia lost, there are a lot of positives to take from the game. David Warner's form bodes well for the side and Josh Inglish stepping in as a finisher makes the batting unit even more impressive. They will try to improve their new ball bowling for the next game.
India will need valuable time in the crease for the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja, with the former lacking much match practice in the closing stages and the latter not at his best.
Suryakumar seemed to have finally found his mojo in ODI cricket in the last game and will look to continue to do so to cement a place in the World Cup XI.
Match Preview
The second ODI of the 3-match series between India and Australia will be played on Sunday. Team India has beaten the first ODI of the series by 5 wickets and is leading the series 1-0.
For India, opening duo Ruturaj Gaikwad (71) and Shubman Gill (74) formed a 142-run partnership. KL Rahul added an unbeaten 58 while Suryakumar Yadav scored 50. With the ball, Mohammad Shami grabbed a 5-wicket haul while Bumrah, Ashwin and Jadeja picked 1 wicket each.
For Australia, David Warner was the only one to score a half-century (52). With the ball, Zampa picked up a couple of wickets while Cummins and Abbott grabbed one each.
India will look to win the series by securing the second ODI while Australia will aim for a comeback here. A big competition between them is expected here on Sunday.
Pitch Report
The wickets at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore are considered batting friendly. With slow bowling options, the team that bats first and scores a high total can put pressure on the chasing team. The pursuit and defense record is the same at the venue.
Weather Report
The temperature is expected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius throughout the game and humidity will be around 80%. The atmosphere is expected to remain clear and provide ideal conditions for this game.
Toss Prediction
In Indore, four of the last five ODIs have been won by the team that batted first. We expect both Pat Cummins and KL Rahul to opt to bat first if they win the toss on Sunday.
Head to Head
Both teams have played 146 games against each other so far. Australia leads the way with 82 wins while India has won 55. 9 games ended without a result.
Venue Details
The match between India and Australia will take place at the Holkar stadium in Indore.
Match Prediction
Australia will continue without the services of Maxwell, Hazlewood and Starc, as Cummins mentioned in the last game, making the Australian bowling attack slightly weaker. Although India will miss their experienced players, they will start as favorites.
Prediction: The team that bats first will win the game
Betting Tips
India has had an excellent run in the last few weeks. They have got the right conditions in terms of team balance and we expect them to continue to play well. Australia, on the other hand, is struggling to find the right combination of players despite having a strong squad. However, we believe Australia is the team that will be supportive in this competition.
Their batting is very powerful and the greater depth allows them to take full advantage of the smaller boundaries offered. The odds have improved significantly after the first game and we believe it is worth the risk to bet on Australia.
Bet on Australia to win.

KL Rahul – the captain produced another controlled innings to take India home in the first ODI. He comes into this game with 20 scores of 50+ from 56 ODI innings.
Mohammed Shami - the right-arm fast bowler knew he had to do something special to give himself a chance of regaining his place in the World Cup and he was brilliant on Friday.

Adam Zampa – The 31-year-old leg-spinner conceded 113 runs in a recent ODI loss to South Africa but overall his wicket taking has been very consistent in the format.
Pat Cummins - the captain looked good in his first game since the Men's Ashes at the end of July and will look to make up for the dismissal of Ishan Kishan in this clash.
