After 6 consecutive defeats in the World Cup, Bangladesh finally saw the face of victory. The Tigers saw their second win in the World Cup by defeating Sri Lanka by 3 wickets in a match full of incidents. But over all the wins and losses, the discussion seems to be going on around one thing, that is the timed out of Angelo Mathews. 

Sri Lanka won the toss and batted first. The most talked about incident of the match happened in the 25th over of the innings. Angelo Mathews of Sri Lanka took more than 2 minutes to come to the crease for the 4th wicket. According to the rules of cricket, the new batter must come to the crease within 2 minutes and be ready to face the ball. In that case, Mathews got into trouble a bit late. And when the bowler Shakib Al Hasan applied for out, the umpires on the field gave Mathews a timed out. At the end of the match, Mathews was very angry about this incident. He raised questions about the Bangladesh team and Shakib's common sense. He also said that he was not out. The Lankan all-rounder also said that they have video evidence. 

In the post-match press conference, Mathews said, “Up to today, I had utmost respect for him [Shakib] and the Bangladesh team. You all play to win. If it's within the rules, it's clearly fine. But in my incident today, within two minutes I was clearly there. We have video evidence and we'll put out a statement later on - I'm not just coming and saying things here. I'm talking with proof. From the time the catch was taken to the time I walked into the crease I still had five seconds after breaking my helmet."

There are occasional unfortunate dismissals in cricket. In response to the question whether the rules need to be changed in these cases, Mathews added, "It was obviously disgraceful from Shakib and Bangladesh. If they want to take wickets like that and stoop down to that level, there's something wrong, drastically.

"It's very disappointing way that Bangladesh played. If it was mankading or obstructing the field, there's no issue. Within two minutes I was at the crease, and it was when I was at the crease that my helmet broke. The umpires saw this. I still had five seconds left. After I showed my helmet, the umpires said [Bangladesh] had appealed. So I asked where common sense was because my two minutes hadn't passed. I've got no words to explain it. In my 15 years of playing I've never seen a team or a player stoop so low.”

At the end of the day, Bangladesh won the match by 3 wickets. As a result of this victory, the Tigers have now climbed to the 7th position in the points table, while the Lankans have fallen to the 8th position.
