But why 59 lakh rupees? The question has arisen in the minds of many as the numbers are a little different. This is explained by Rohan Gavaskar, son of Sunil Gavaskar. He said that the legendary batsman has donated Rs 15 lakh for his 59 centuries in his career.
However, Gavaskar did not say how much he contributed to the coronavirus fund. His donation was confirmed but the amount of money was unknown. But the amount is known through the former Mumbai captain Amol Mazumdar. He said Gavaskar gave Rs 35 lakh in central government funds and Rs 24 lakh in Maharashtra government funds.
Rohan later confirmed the amount of money on social media Twitter. At the same time, he explained that his father donated Rs 59 lakh. Gavaskar made 35 centuries for India, for which he gave Rs 35 lakh to the Prime Minister's funds, and donated Rs 24 lakh to the state government funds for 24 centuries for Mumbai.
Rohan's tweet, “It was donated just last week (fundraising). 35 lakhs because he (Gavaskar) scored 35 centuries for India. And 24 lakhs because he made 24 centuries for Mumbai. Pray for the best of all, so that we are all safe and sound.”
