When Zimbabwe shocked everyone by beating Bangladesh in the Sylhet Test, Mohsin Sheikh, former national team performance analyst, didn't hold back. He said, "Bangladesh cricket is now below Zimbabwe" in a Facebook post.
Zimbabwe just beat Bangladesh by three wickets in a thrilling Test match on Wednesday. It's not the first time that Zimbabwe have made the Tigers look bad. In fact, there is a troubling pattern in the numbers every time these two groups meet in Bangladesh.
Mohsin, who has closely observed the national setup from within, expressed what many fans are quietly thinking. As soon as Zimbabwe clinched victory, he posted, “Well played Cricket Zimbabwe on a thrilling test win! 1st win since 2021 As I said before Bangladesh Cricket hit new low, they will be below Zimbabwe Cricket.”
There are no more reasons for a team when they lose a home Test to a team like Zimbabwe. Bangladesh are known for having a strong fighting spirit, but they looked like they were lost in strategy and not mentally ready. Many people may find Mohsin's comments hurtful, but his anger points to a bigger problem in the national cricket setup.
Mohsin wasn't just upset about the outcome. He criticized the people in charge and the way sports are organized in Bangladesh and asked if anyone will be held responsible for this loss. “Will there be any accountability? Where will the responsibility lies? Do we continue to accept poor performance keep pointing fingers here and there with eye wash as per previous but not hold real change and bring true accountability as it was promised with the nation last year,” he added.
