Bangladesh's first Test against Zimbabwe started badly in Sylhet, and it was a day they will never forget.  The hosts chose to bat first and were bundled out for just 191 runs. At the end of Day 1, Zimbabwe were in charge with 67 runs without losing any wickets.

There were high hopes before the game because of claims of a "new approach." However, what happened was all too familiar: a weak top order, a fall in the middle order, and a lack of application under pressure.

Bangladesh lost both of their openers when they only had 32 runs.  Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque tried to keep the games going, but when they were dismissed, the rest of the batters fell like a house of cards.

Even though there was talk of "doing something new," the batting performance didn't show any improvement. This made fans angry, and critics questioned the team's attitude and planning for the game.

Mohammad Salahuddin, Bangladesh's senior assistant coach, didn't blame the field when he talked to the media after the day's games.  Instead, he said that the batters were not following the rules and had problems with their strategy.

“It’s not about avoiding the fourth innings or anything like that. There's no point blaming the pitch,” Salahuddin said. “Zimbabwe batted well. We made some tactical errors. Our batters didn’t look completely uncomfortable, but they couldn’t apply themselves properly. It’s something the players will be able to explain better.”

Salahuddin also shed light on the mental aspect of the collapse, admitting that the batters continue to make impulsive decisions at critical moments. “Yes, we made some tactical mistakes, but mentally too we weren’t sharp. Every time we seemed to be settling in, someone would throw it away with a rash shot. That’s mental. We need to address this quickly. In Test cricket, unlike white-ball formats, you have another innings — but it doesn’t mean you throw one away,” he added.

He also pointed out Jaker Ali Anik’s dismissal, describing it as a key example of poor tactical judgment, “That ball was outside the sixth stump. It was a clear tactical error. These are the fine margins we need to correct quickly.”
