Zimbabwe wicketkeeper Clive Madande sets unwanted record in Test cricket
He broke the previous record, which was held by former England wicketkeeper batter Les Ames, who in a 1934 Test at The Oval handed up 37 byes in Australia's score of 327.

Clive Madande, the wicketkeeper for Zimbabwe, set a record that had stood for ninety years on Friday when he gave up 42 byes in a Test innings against Ireland.
Ireland struck 250 in response to Zimbabwe's 210, and the runs conceded by the 24-year-old Madande—who had a difficult debut after being out for a duck on Thursday's opening day at Stormont—were greater than their 40-run advantage in the first innings. He had to contend with his bowlers sending multiple deliveries down the legside and late swing after the ball had passed the bat, so the byes were not totally his fault.
If Andy McBrine and Matthew Humphreys hadn't put on a 47-wicket stand in the final over, Zimbabwe might have still been leading after one innings. On a rain-affected second day of this one-off Test, Joylord Gumbie and Prince Masvaure batted out the last fifteen minutes, leaving Zimbabwe 12-0 in their second innings at stumps, a deficit of 28 runs. With a victory up for grabs for both teams, the Test match is therefore in a very strong position going into day three.
