Zimbabwe were penalized for their slow over-rate in the third T20I of the recently concluded series against Afghanistan. The players were fined 10 per cent of their match fees.
Zimbabwe's players were fined 10 percent of their match fee due to a low over rate in the last T20I against Afghanistan in Harare. Afghanistan won the match with the lowest score by three wickets.
The allegations were made by field umpires Iknow Chabi and Forster Mutizwa, third umpire Percival Sizara and fourth umpire Langton Rusere.
The team's captain, Sikandar Raza, has accepted the sanctions imposed by umpire Andy Pycroft, who is also a member of the ICC Elite Panel. It came as a huge shock to the team after they suffered a narrow defeat against Afghanistan.
The charge was made under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to breaches of the minimum over rate. Players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.
Zimbabwe is currently hosting an all-format tour of Afghanistan, which began with a three-T20I series between the two teams.
While the hosts emerged victorious in the first match, the visitors recovered to clinch the series with back-to-back victories.
The two teams will now face each other in three ODIs, followed by two Test matches.
