Zimbabwe Cricket appoints Dave Houghton as their head coach
Dave Houghton has previously coached Zimbabwe, leading the team to a Super-Six finish in the 1999 World Cup.

In good news for Zimbabwe Cricket, Dave Houghton has been roped in as the head coach. Interestingly, this will be the second time that he will coach Zimbabwe as he has earlier coached the team long time ago.
Dave HoughtonUnder his guidance, Zimbabwe made it to Super-Six finish in the 1999 World Cup. Dave has played 22 Tests for Zimbabwe cricket team during his playing days. He has an average of 41.83 in the longest format of the game.
The former Zimbabwe skipper will begin his duty ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2022, which will kick off in June.
Meanwhile, Lalchand Rajput, the current coach of Zimbabwe men's cricket team has been given the role of Technical Director. Former Proteas all-rounder Lance Klusener has been named the batting coach of Zimbabwe cricket team.
As of now, they are looking for a new bowling coach. Dave famously led Zimbabwe national cricket team in their inaugural Test against India in 1992 where he scored a memorable century in that game.
He scored 1464 runs at an average of 43.05 including four centuries, registering his best score of 266 against Sri Lanka in 1994. Interestingly, this remains to be the best individual score by a Zimbabwean cricketer in Test cricket.

He also represented the nation in 63 ODIs where he accumulated 1530 runs including one century and 12 fifties to his name. “We are delighted to be bringing in Dave and we count ourselves fortunate and privileged to be able to appoint such a vastly experienced and highly respected head coach at a time we are looking to improve our on-field performances,” current director of cricket at ZC, Masakadza added in a media statement.
“With Lance having also bounced back as batting coach, we believe we now have a formidable technical team that can push for World Cup qualification and ensure our players put in consistently competitive performance. I would also like to thank Lalchand who has been in charge of the team for the past four years, an incredibly challenging period for our cricket,” he added.
