The debate around the inclusion of local coaches in the Bangladesh national cricket team has resurfaced recently, particularly following the appointment of BCB president Faruque Ahmed. Despite ongoing discussions, a domestic coach has yet to take on a role within the national setup. However, recent speculation suggests that the board may be considering appointing a local assistant coach, with various media outlets pointing towards Mohammad Salahuddin as a potential candidate.

During a press conference in Chattogram, BCB president Faruque Ahmed expressed a positive stance regarding the inclusion of a local coach in the national team. While he refrained from naming anyone specifically, the emphasis on local coaching possibilities has sparked interest within the cricketing community.

In light of the upcoming Afghanistan series, which kicks off on November 6 in Sharjah, opener Zakir Hasan shared his thoughts on the potential for a local coach. He remarked, “Whether a local coach will come is the board's decision. I think it would be good if a local coach joins us. The board understands these matters better than I do. Communication would definitely be easier. However, everyone has the capacity to adapt to each other. But having local coaches would be better for our country.”

Zakir also commented on the current head coach, Phil Simmons, stating, “He has been here for a short time and is still observing. He has provided us with some minor insights. After one series, he has come to know us quite a bit. I think it will be easier moving forward.”

As the Bangladesh team prepares for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, all eyes will be on how these coaching dynamics unfold and whether local coaches will finally have a place in the national team structure.
