Man of the match | Yashasvi Jaiswal (India) |
India thrashed West Indies by 9 wickets and 3 overs to spare on Sunday (13th August) at Lauderhill, Florida. India chased down WI's competitive target 179 at ease. Credit to the opening duo of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal as they had a 165 run stand on opening.
Earlier the day, West Indies after winning the toss they elected to bat first. Coming out to bat, West Indies had a brief flying start. Kyle Mayers smacked for a while but he couldn’t keep going with the flow as he threw his wicket away to Arshdeep Singh for 17 off 7 deliveries. Brandon King had a off colored day as he made only 18 consumimg 16 deliveries. Shai Hope coming out to bat at number three, made toil hard of Indian bowlers and kept them conceding runs at a rapid pace. Hope made a swashbuckling 45 off 29 deliveries with a fine strike rate of 155.17. He smacked 3 boundaries and 2 massive sixes.
But after the departure of Hope's tornado, West Indies had a little collapse. Courtesy to some brilliant bowling from Kuldeep Yadav as he picked up two wickets on the trot and triggered the collapse. But Shimron Hetmyer took the rain and kept the ship going. The southpaw absolutely hammered the Indians for fun and he went for socring 61 which came from just 39 balls. Odean Smith at the end made a breezy 15 to help Windies on reaching a very competitive 178 on the board in allotted 20 overs.
In the counter of 179, Indian young opening pair showed the glimpses of their talent. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal cashed on everything loose. They smacked the WI bowlers at ease and showed mercy on them. The pair added 165 runs on the opening stand, which is the joint highest for India in T20I's equalizing Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul's 165. However Shubman Gill scored a fantastic 77 off just 47 balls, while his partner Yashasvi Jaiswal made an unbeaten 84* off only 51 deliveries with a jaw dropping strike rate of 164.71. India chased down the total with 9 wickets in hands and 3 overs to spare.
