West Indies vs Australia 2nd ODI (as part of World Cup Super League) in Bridgetown has been postponed after a positive Covid-19 result returned.
The positive result came from a support staff of the West Indian team.
The toss took place before the suspension and it was won by stand-in Australia captain Alex Carey, who opted to bat first. Pacer Riley Meredith was handed his first ODI cap, but everything changed within a few moments as the news emerged.
All members of both teams are currently isolating. A decision will be made after another round of testing.
"The second CG Insurance ODI between West Indies and Australia has been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test result from a non-playing member of the West Indies staff. This decision was taken after the toss at Kensington Oval once the result was known," a Cricket West Indies statement read.
"The established COVID-19 protocols stipulate that all members of both teams and match officials will return immediately to the team hotel and will be re-tested later today. They will remain in isolation in their hotel rooms until their PCR-Test results are returned.
"A decision on when the match will be replayed will be made at a later date once all the test results are confirmed."
West Indies have successfully hosted Sri Lanka and South Africa this year. Fans were allowed briefly at venues. They are expected to host Pakistan for two Tests and five T20Is after the Australia series.
Australia, on the other hand, are having their third overseas tour since the pandemic. Their next destination is Bangladesh, where they will play five T20Is beginning from August 3. Cricket Australia set conditions to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) before confirming the tour.
