It was another tough day for Men's In Green batters as Ben Sears and the Kiwi bowlers kept them under pressure throughout. Let’s take a look at what the players had to say after the final match.
Match Recap (Quick Summary)
New Zealand scored 264/8 after batting first, thanks to half-centuries from Rhys Mariu (58) and Michael Bracewell (59).
Daryl Mitchell chipped in with 43 runs and crossed 2000 ODI runs faster than any Kiwi batter.
Pakistan were bowled out for 221 in their chase. Former Captain Babar Azam scored 50 but the rest couldn't hold on.
Youngster Ben Sears was the star again picking up 5 wickets for 34 runs and sealing the Player of the Series title with 10 wickets in 3 games.
Michael Bracewell, New Zealand Captain "When you add a few new guys into the mix, you always want to do well. Pleasing to win 3-0 as it is to see guys coming in and performing and doing all they are asked off and playing the way that we want to play. As a Black Caps unit, we have a clear style about how we want to play and the little things that could probably go unnoticed to a lot of people. We want to make sure that we nail those things and I feel like we have done that this series. We are obviously playing to win and to win the series is massively important but those little things are also very important to this group.
It's great to see everyone coming in and doing it straightaway. (On the pacers) It was same in the T20 series, they carried through to the ODIs. It was pretty amazing to watch them on some pretty sporting wickets, but that takes nothing away from the way they bowled. They were fast, aggressive and used their height and bounce which was outstanding. Amazing to see the young crop come through led by Jacob Duffy and Ben Sears and Will O'Rourke. It was great to see different guys step up at different times. We stayed nice and calm. We just found a way to get ourselves to an above-par total and then the way that the bowlers bowled, it was always going to be enough."
Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan Captain "Disappointing series for us. (Positives) Babar was in good touch with two fifties. Naseem Shah's batting as well. In the bowling, Sufiyan Muqeem was the guy who bowled really well. I give credit to New Zealand in all departments. They've been playing well. We know that these are difficult conditions for us here but they played in Pakistan really well. They played against us in Pakistan. There are professionals in all departments. We need to improve, that's it.
In New Zealand, it's very important to play well against the new ball. We'll learn from here and fix it. If you lose, you can't say like that (when asked if today was their best performance of the tour). Individually we are good. New Zealand won all the key moments. After Champions Trophy and this series, we'll leave the past. PSL is a big tournament for us in Pakistan, hopefully our nation will enjoy. Hopefully we'll do well in PSL."
Ben Sears, Player of the Series "It was a good couple of days. Pretty grateful to get the opportunity against a really good team, and it was cool to get some wickets. Pretty exciting, really cool experience with a great group of guys. Having Duff and Will running in hard at the top, it's nice to come in first change and have guys go at you because they can't get them away.
It's awesome, just to play with Duff and O'Rourke, the swing and the movement and the bounce, coming in first change, was just trying to have an impact, it was good fun. (Different role today?) Same plan, again they (Duffy and O'Rourke) started off in really good areas, they were building pressure. We tried to hold it through the middle and keep that pressure going. It was nice to get a few wickets. I wasn't about thinking about it (fifer while bowling the final over), it's cool to get a fifer, cool to be part of that performance."
