Despite the hype around Mirpur’s conditions, Bangladesh are struggling to win at their once-favored venue. While the team has tasted Test success at venues like Mount Maunganui, Multan, and Sylhet, Mirpur has become a challenging ground for the Tigers. However, Bangladesh isn’t pointing fingers at the conditions for their recent losses. Instead, Mehidy Hasan Miraz candidly admits that the team's poor performance is to blame.

Following their defeat to South Africa in the Dhaka Test, Miraz acknowledged, "We didn’t play well, and that gave them the opportunity. If we had played better, they wouldn’t have had the chance. We played really poor cricket in this match, and I admit that."

South Africa’s pace bowlers found significant success in the game, while Bangladesh's strategy relied heavily on spin, with only one pacer in the playing XI. This decision raised questions, especially after Hasan Mahmud’s impressive performance, leaving some wondering if an additional pacer could have made a difference.

Miraz shared his thoughts on the bowling strategy, saying, "We expected the Mirpur pitch to turn, and that the spinners would dominate. We’ve fielded just one pacer before in similar conditions. But things didn’t go as planned. We had four bowlers, and since it was Mirpur, we expected the spinners to take charge. But their pacers performed really well, and so did our Hasan. If we had performed better, especially myself and Nayeem, these questions wouldn’t arise. I didn’t bowl well enough either; the team expects me to take 6-7 wickets and help secure a win."

Reflecting on the team's overall performance, Miraz added, "Everyone expects us to do well at home, including ourselves. I admit we didn’t meet those expectations. We know Mirpur the best, and the responsibility is on us, the players. We still have one more match, and if we can win that, I hope we’ll make a strong comeback."

Miraz also explained the strategic decisions that went wrong, saying, "We got the conditions we wanted. We won the toss and chose to bat, just as planned. Batting on the fourth day in Mirpur is always tough, and we prepared with that in mind. If we had scored the runs in the first innings that we managed in the second, it would have been a different game. Getting bowled out for 106 in the first innings put us on the back foot. The first innings is always crucial in Test cricket."
