India's star batter Virat Kohli continued to struggle against Australia's bowlers, falling for just 3 runs on Day 3 of the third Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Gabba, Brisbane. His dismissal, courtesy of Josh Hazlewood, left India reeling at 22/3 in 7.3 overs before an early lunch was taken due to rain.
Kohli's departure came in the eighth over, as Hazlewood delivered a pitched-up ball outside off-stump, a familiar weakness in Kohli's recent struggles. Kohli chased after the ball, only managing to edge it to wicketkeeper Alex Carey, who completed a comfortable catch. This dismissal marked another instance of Kohli falling to a wide delivery outside off, a pattern that has plagued him throughout this series.

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar was particularly critical of Kohli's decision-making, calling it a "poor" rush of blood. He pointed out that had Kohli resisted the temptation to play at the wide ball from Hazlewood, he could have gone into lunch unbeaten. Gavaskar's criticism echoed the frustration of many fans who were hoping for a solid contribution from India’s most experienced batter.
