Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya were not part of the first two ODIs against Australia at home. They were rested for the first two games and hence they were not named in the ODI squad. The trio are named in the ODI squad for the third game at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.

Earlier, Team India played the first two ODIs under the leadership of KL Rahul. The Men in Blue won the ODI opener by 5 wickets in Mohali before defeating Australia by 99 runs (D/L method) in the second game. Team India won the series by 2-0, with one more game to be played. 

Rohit Sharma has been playing non-stop cricket this year and the team management wanted to rest some seniors as part of the workload in the build-up to the ICC World Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma was last seen in action during the Asia Cup 2023 tournament.

Under his captaincy, Team India braved the odds, beat the opponents and made it to the final. The Men in Blue got the better of Sri Lanka in the final to win the eighth title (seven in ODIs and once in T20Is). Rohit Sharma joined Mohammad Azharuddin and MS Dhoni to become the third Indian captain to win 2 Asia Cup titles. 

India will be looking forward to inflicting a 3-0 whitewash on Australia whereas the Men in Yellow will play for pride in a bid to steer clear of whitewash.
