Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw, who led India to victory in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, recently opened up about being heavily trolled on social media. Following a sharp rise in his career, Shaw's recent struggles with form and disciplinary issues have made him a target for online criticism.
The young opener, who set his base price at ₹75 lakh for the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, went unsold, with no franchises expressing interest in signing him
After the auction snub, a video of Shaw discussing the trolling he's faced throughout his career resurfaced on social media, sparking widespread discussion.
Shaw candidly admitted that he keeps tabs on the memes and trolls made about him online. Despite the hurt it causes, he acknowledged the unavoidable nature of social media's impact.
"Trolling isn't a good thing, but it's not so bad either. Sometimes there we get trolled and we all cricketers see it. I don't know about the rest, but I see them. If there are memes on me, or when someone trolls me, or if someone has posted something, that too. I see all the trolling and memes, and it hurts" he Said
He added, "'I'm not saying that it makes you laugh. That is a bit wrong. You shouldn't do such things. Wherever I go, they say Prithvi is not practising. But I think that it's my birthday. I recently got trolled for dancing with my sisters and friends on my birthday. My sister put it up on social media and I got trolled for that. I think that I can at least celebrate on one day.”
